Winter School in Water Quality and Testing in Aqaba, Jordan
The “Winter School in Water Quality and Testing” started its activities in Aqaba with wide participation of national and international researchers and graduate students. The participants came from Jordan as hosting country, Brazil, Mexico, Turkey, Burkina Faso, Thailand, Vietnam, and Egypt.
The training workshop consisted of six days, from April 2-9, 2011 during which lectures and training were given by specialists from the participating countries, researchers and specialists from Ben Hayyan laboratories.
The participants have received training and visited the following places:
- Ben Hayyan International Laboratories, Aqaba.
- Mutah University, Karak
- Prince Faisal Research Center for Dead Sea, Environmental and Energy Research, Karak.
- Industrial Phosphate Complex, Aqaba.
- Marine Science Station, Aqaba.
- AZESA Marine Science Park.
- Aqaba Wastewater Treatment Plant, Aqaba.
- Excursion to Wadi Rum
Emphasis was put on joint research and scientific studies between young scientists participating in this workshop which considered the first step in improving human life and survival in a clean environment free from pollution. Dr. Batarseh, the organizer of the workshop pointed out the importance of convening this workshop in Jordan, which is considered one of the poorest countries in the world in water resources.
