Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Meeting, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, February 1 – 3, 2011

The first Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Meeting was held in Burkina Faso from February 1-3, 2011. Participants from seven different countries came to the capital Ouagadougou to establish a new regional network within the exceed project. During the meeting professor Yvonne Bonzi, Université de Ouagadougou, was elected as Regional Coordinator and professor Wellington Massamba, University of Botswana, as second regional representative to the Management Board.

The participants discussed and decided on activities of the African region in 2011. The highlight will be an Expert Seminar on “Sustainable Flood Risk Analysis and Management” from September 19-30,2001. The seminar will be hosted by the Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia in cooperation with TU Braunschweig. Furthermore a joint research proposal to the African Union was initiated.

In order to strengthen the new network and to decide on activities for the year 2012 another Regional Meeting will be held in Nairobi, Kenya from June 6-9, 2011.
