September 5 – September 15, 2011 / Braunschweig, Germany

The Exceed “Summer School on Water and International Relations – Development, Conflict and Cooperation, International Political Economy and the ‘Green State’” features a sophisticated view on sustainable water management from the social sciences.

The Summer School contributes to the interdisciplinary Exceed project by focussing on water and its eminent role in international relations. It provides an introduction to the political, economic and social aspects of the topic water, analyzing its relevance both for global stability and peaceful development as well as a reason for national and international conflict.

Using inter alia the examples of the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) No 7 with respect to water and the function of the World Climate Council, the participants will learn how international cooperation proceeds in the field of water.

The event addresses MA and M.Sc. students, PhD students, post-doctoral researchers and senior research scientists from Engineering and Natural Sciences-Departments with an interest in environmental policy and the political, social and economic aspects of water.
